How to Install Dreamweaver 8 and Flash 8 on Ubuntu


Dreamweaver 8 and Flash 8 are popular programs that allow the user to design dynamic internet sites. In my opinion they are the best software available to web developers.

In order to install DW8 and Flash 8 we need to install the software on a windows machine. We will then apply a security ‘crack’. Copy the registry files from windows into our dapper version of ubuntu.

I have a virtual copy of ubuntu running on my windows machine… so moving the files back and forth was pretty easy. If you don’t have this sort of environment, you might consider getting a usb flash drive to transfer files from one machine to another.

Steps:

1. Install DW8 and Flash 8 on windows pc
2. Copy registry files from windows pc
3. Install wine and recode on ubuntu dapper
4. Install the registry files in wine
5. Run DW8 and Flash in ubuntu dapper

Installing DW8 and Flash 8 on Windows PC

In order to have DW8 and Flash 8 work properly on your ubuntu machine, you HAVE to crack the security on the software. Don’t know where to get the crack you can try here. Due to obvious reason, I can’t store the crack on my site!

  • Install DW8 and Flash 8 on your windows PC
  • Download and run the crack.
  • Run DW8 and Flash 8 for the first time to ensure that the crack worked.

Copy registry files from windows PC

Now that the software has been installed and cracked we are going to retrieve the registry files.

In widows:

* Start –> Run
* regedit
* Select the HKEY_LOCAL/Software/Macromedia directory
* Right click on the directory and select “Export”
* Save the file as “macromedia.reg”

Install wine and recode on ubuntu dapper

Now we need to install wine and recode on our ubuntu box. In terminal type the following:

* sudo apt-get update
* sudo apt-get install wine
* wine
* sudo apt-get install recode

Install the registry files in wine

We are now going to install the DW8 and Flash8 files in ubuntu

In windows:

* copy this directory c:\Program Files\macromedia

In Ubuntu:

* paste to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files

In Windows:

* Copy c:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia

In Ubuntu:

* Paste /home/username/.wine/drive_c/window/all users/

In Windows:

* Copy c:\Windows\system32\Macromed

In Ubuntu:

* Paste /home/username/.wine/windows/system32

In Windows:

* Copy c:\Program Files\Common Files\Macromedia

In Ubuntu:

* Paste /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files

In order to copy the macromedia.reg files we saved earlier we are going to need to convert it to ascii:

* sudo recode ucs-2..ascii macromedia.reg
* wine regedit macromedia.reg

Run DW8 and Flash in ubuntu dapper

Dreamweaver 8:

* wine /home/TUNOMBRE/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver 8/Dreamweaver.exe

Flash 8:

* wine /home/TUNOMBRE/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Macromedia/Flash 8/Flash.exe

Trate de hacer como se menciona arriba y me sale el mismo error de “lockope “, tengo instalada la ultima version del wine y trato de instalar el dreamweaver 8 del setup.exe pero me sale el siguiente error esto despues de aceptar la licencia, la carpeta de instalacion y le doy clic a instalar y ahi queda

monflomai, estas usando dapper o estas usando edgy? Ya tengo tiempo de no tratar esta instalacion. Quizas voy a probar nuevamente usando edgy. Lo siento que no te pueda ayudar mas, no e visto este error antes. Pero lo voy a revisar!! Gracias por tus comentarios!!

Hola Nadia, muy buen tutorial para crear accesos directos desde la consola, aunque tambien se puede hacer desde una forma grafica desde: sistema – preferencias – menu principal y añadiendo en la categoria especifica la aplicación que queramos :D

Una preguntita, al final del tuto cuando dices:

>Ya en ascii, se puede instalar el registro a wine.

Tenemos que ir a Archivo importar macromedia.reg, verdad?

Yo lo probé una vez y me funcionó perfectamente, pero no se podia trabajar. Al cabo de 5 minutos se cerraba el flash.

A ti te funciona bien? Como en el windows por ejemplo?

Ya tengo tiempo de no usarlo en ubuntu porque ahora estoy usando ubuntu Feisty. Solo logre de poder haber echo esto trabajar en ubuntu dapper!

Pero para tratar de contestar tu pregunta.  En el segundo paso despues de instalar Flash, tienes que entrar al regedit y \’export\’ los archivos del registry y guardarlo como macromedia.reg.  Despues con este archivo hay que convertirlo a ascii.  Ya en ascii se puede registrar en wine.

Cuando yo tenia dapper, no tube problemas con Flash.  El Dreamweaver me dio un poquito de problemas vez en cuando que se me cerraba.  Pero el Flash era el mas estable de los dos.

Siertas versiones de flash y dreamweaver trabajan mejor que otras en wine. Yo ahora me gusta usar la nueva version de Flash y Dreamweaver CS3. Pero wine no lo suporta. Es que lo que uso para esas aplicaciones que no me trabajan bien en ubuntu es que uso virtualbox para instalar una version de windows xp en mi ubuntu y instalo y inicio mis aplicaciones de ahi. Esto me da la opcion de iniciar ubuntu y si requiero usar Flash o DW puedo iniciar windows en mi ubuntu y iniciar estas aplicaciones. Me a trabajado esto mucho mejor que tratar de lidiar con wine! Quizas voy a hacer el intento en el futuro instalar Flash y DW en wine, pero ahora, siento que es mucho trabajo para tener algo que es muy inestable!

Yo también uso una maquina virtual para poder trabajar con Flash. Ya que nunca conseguí que la versión 8 fuera estable. Cada 5 minutos se colgaba, y así es imposible trabajar.
Como maquina virtual yo uso Vmware Server, que tal va el virtualbox? Es mas liviano? Ocupa menos recursos?

Ya lo probaré a ver que tal.

Yo tengo el virtualbox y tambien el vmware. Uso mas el vmware. El virtualbox esta en mi otro pc y me parece que trabaja bien. Yo recomiendo el virtualbox porque es Open Source!

In order to get the best results for a stable system I would load up virtualbox and install it on windows xp. Just my 2 cents.
